Life is breath. Life is motion. Even when we are still, we are in motion. The heart beats, the blood flows. The breath advances, retreats and informs. The muscles and sinews engage and shift, keeping us in balance with our surroundings, pulsing with silent power.

This is true, or can be true, for all of us, in every moment of our lives. Waking or sleeping, working or playing, traveling or at rest, we can be present and whole within our bodies and within the current moment. Remembering the past and being mindful of the future, we can remain present.

Kripalu Yoga, which I use in my practice, has been described as meditation in motion. I add elements of Continuum, a philosophy of the body and mind developed by Emilie Conrad, who has written: “movement is who we are, not something we do.” In Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, we seek to give the client space and time to pause and listen to their body.  In the process, healing of old hurts can begin.
